Remembering Jim Scales, Our Friend and Colleague

It is with profound sadness that Mika Meyers announces the passing of our friend and colleague James F. Scales.  Jim is being remembered by his Mika Meyers’ family as an outstanding lawyer, a kind and caring person, and someone who brought a lot of laughs to the firm over the years.

Highly regarded and respected by his colleagues and adversaries, Jim specialized in the areas of municipal law, real estate, construction, and estate planning.  After practicing law for 30 plus years, Jim still thoroughly enjoyed serving his clients and helping them overcome challenges.

Jim received his bachelor’s degree from Michigan State University and his law degree from the University of Michigan Law School, cum laude.  Jim’s legal career was recognized with numerous awards, including AV rated by Martindale Hubbell, Best Lawyers “2019 Grand Rapids Real Estate Law Lawyer of the Year,” and Grand Rapids Magazine’s Top Lawyer in 2019 through 2024.

We extend our deepest condolences to Jim’s family and friends, including his wife, Cheryl, daughter Christine (Eric), son Jim (Allison), and mother Alice.  Our thoughts and prayers are with them as they navigate this painful loss.

Jim will be deeply missed by all of us.

Funeral arrangements are as follows:  Visitation on Monday, March 31 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Pederson Funeral Home, 127 N. Monroe Street, Rockford, Michigan.  The funeral is scheduled for Tuesday, April 1, 11:00 AM at Our Lady of Consolation Catholic Church, 4865 11 Mile Road, N.E., Rockford, Michigan.  A visitation is also scheduled prior to the funeral from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Our Lady of Consolation Church.  After the funeral, a luncheon will be served at the church.

To allow our Mika Meyers’ family to be together on Tuesday, April 1, our offices will be closed.  The offices will reopen on Wednesday, April 2.
